Duncan is a Senior Partner of JPWALL, based in Hong Kong.
He has been based in Hong Kong since 1998 and is widely recognized as having been one of the pioneers of actuarial involvement in general insurance in the region.
Duncan has experience consulting to insurance organizations on a wide range of topics, with his clients having included insurers and reinsurers across the region including Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand and the Philippines.
Before moving to Asia, Duncan worked for Tillinghast-Towers Perrin in London. Whilst there, Duncan was actively involved in the merger of Zurich Financial Services and Eagle Star. He was also involved in the establishment of Equitas, the reinsurance vehicle created to assume the liabilities of business written by Lloyd’s syndicates up to 1992.
In Hong Kong, Duncan’s clients have included insurers such as RSA, Allianz, ACE, HSBC, Mitsui Sumitomo, ACR and China Taiping. Duncan has also advised numerous industry bodies such as the Motor Insurers’ Bureau, the Reinsurers’ Forum, the EC Insurers Insolvency Scheme, the Travel Insurance Compensation Fund and the Malaysian Motor Insurance Pool.
Furthermore, Duncan has taken a high profile role in a number of industry-wide market reports for the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers, the Accident Insurance Association (Motor and Employees Compensation) and the Medical Insurance Association. He is expert in the area on Employees’ Compensation and produced a highly-publicized review of the Hong Kong market in 2000, subsequently being asked to produce annual recommended EC premium rates for the insurance industry.
Duncan has been an active participant in the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong, and is a past Chairman of its General Insurance Council. He also sits as an independent member on the Disciplinary Council of the HK Confederation of Insurance Brokers.
Duncan has been a regular speaker at industry conferences in the region and frequently authored articles on topical issues in Asia’s leading insurance publications.
Duncan has over 20 years' experience in General Insurance and brings a wealth of experience and strategic oversight to JPWALL across Asia.
Previous to JPWALL, Duncan was a Partner in a big four accounting firm leading their General Insurance Actuarial practice across Asia.
In his free time, Duncan is a keen and able sportsman. He no longer plays rugby and now focuses on tennis and golf. He is married with 2 young children.
Duncan is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (UK).
